Early Childhood Special Interest Group
To kick off this Early Childhood Special Interest Group, ITBE is hosting a membership drive on June 14, 2014 from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at Concordia University - Chicago (in River Forest, IL). Come out to win raffle prizes, hear Dr. Linda Espinoza speak on early childhood ELLs, and ask an ISBE representative any questions you have about the ESL endorsement requirements for EC teachers. You do not need to be an ITBE member to attend, but you do need to register - email Valerie Jones to reserve your spot.
Have I convinced you yet? At least come to the meeting to find out for yourself if ITBE can offer you anything. Don't forget to reserve a spot!
Why I Like ITBE
I like ITBE because it provides me with a professional network of other ESL and Bilingual teachers from all over the state, from preschool through higher education. I attend their annual state-wide convention each year, and always come home feeling refreshed and feeling like I learned something new that will help me improve my practice.
In addition to the state-wide conference (held at the end of February every year), they host a Fall and Spring Workshop which are like half-day mini-conferences. I love these because I can spend the morning exploring new ideas and listening to presentations and get that same refreshed feeling, but then I have the rest of my day to do with what I want. The other reason that I love the Fall and Spring Workshops is that they don't break the bank (last year they cost only $10 for members and $15 for non-members) which is appreciated all around, whether you are paying your own way or whether you are one of those lucky teachers whose school district will pay for you to attend.
At the very least, give the organization a chance. Come out to the meeting to see what ITBE can do for you.
