And so I begin... I worked with blogs quite a bit in the classroom, but never blogged myself. Instead, I guided my ELL students to create and publish their own blogs, then lead them in reading and commenting on their classmates ideas. Blogging is such a dynamic tool for teaching writing skills to students because it gives the students a real audience for their work. My student blogs were not visible to the outside world - only students in my class could see the other students' blogs, but that didn't matter. Something about being able to browse through the list of blog entries, reading some or all, gave my students a sense of power. They wanted to write in their blogs, and when do you ever have students begging you to write?!
